Registration
The Somerset Basketball Association opens registration for Shooting Stars and the 4th - 8th grade programs in October. Watch the Schedule of Events and Facebook page about annual registration. The SBA also collaborates with the Somerset schools to distribute reminders in the students' school folders. Please Contact Us if you have any questions about registration.
Costs
Registration fees are used to pay for gym usage, tournament fees, and equipment. The SBA fees for 2016-2017 season are: 4th grade league $50 per player; 5th through 8th grade league is $100 per player. Jerseys cost an additional $25. The Shooting Stars program costs $35 per player which includes two basketballs, a t-shirt, and gym usage. All fees are subject to change.
Practices
Players are expected to attend all practices and games. Typically, practices for grades 4th - 8th begin in November and are scheduled twice a week in the evening at the Somerset Middle School or the Somerset Elementary School. Practices for Shooting Stars are held on Saturday mornings at the Somerset Elementary School. Schedules will be posted on the website. The SBA and its coaches will also email the schedule to parents.
Games
Games and tournaments for 5th - 8th grade boys are held on Saturdays at schools in the area. The SBA hosts tournaments in Somerset, but you should also expect to travel to communities such as Amery, Osceola, and Ellsworth. The MYAS traveling leagues may travel to tournaments in Minneapolis / St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs.
The Shooting Stars perform during halftime of one of the Somerset High School varsity games.
Equipment
Players will need basketball shoes, black shorts and a Somerset reversible jersey. Jerseys are the same each year, so we recommend that you purchase a size that will fit for several years. Each player receives an SBA warm up t-shirts.
